Longer rides such as the Swim and Picnic Ride ideally start before 11:00 AM. The Actun Balam Jungle Horseback & Cave Expedition is a full-day experience and requires requires a start before 10:00 AM. Green Acres Jungle Horseback on the Hummingbird Highway in Belize’s Cayo South offers six trail riding experiences: the Ranch Loop (1 hour), Jungle Discovery (1.5 hours), Jungle Explorer (2 hours), Jungle Ride & Swim (3–4 hours), Jungle Ride, Swim & Picnic (3–4 hours), and the Actun Balam Jungle Horseback & Cave Expedition (5.5 hours). Every ride departs from the ranch and is led by experienced local guides & wranglers.

Yes — Green Acres Jungle Horseback welcomes riders of all builds to a maximum weight of about 210lbs. The Ranch Loop is specifically designed with heavier riders in mind — flat terrain, a gentle pace, and beautiful Belizean scenery with less physical demands. For guests over 200lbs, please provide your height and weight so we can match you to the most suitable horse.

Yes — trotting and cantering are available on the Jungle Discovery, Jungle Explorer, Jungle Ride & Swim, and required on the Actun Balam Expedition at Green Acres in Cayo South, Belize. Riders who are confident and comfortable in the saddle are welcome to open it up on suitable sections of the trail.

Booking a Ride

Yes — advance booking is strongly recommended for horseback riding at Green Acres on the Hummingbird Highway in Belize, particularly on weekends, Belizean public holidays, and during the peak tourist season. Walk-in guests are welcome when space is available but availability cannot be guaranteed without a reservation.

What to Expect

For horseback riding in Belize, long pants are strongly recommended to protect your legs in the saddle and on jungle trails. Closed-toe shoes or boots are required — sandals and flip flops are not permitted at Green Acres. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and a hat are essential for riding in the Belizean jungle. For swim rides, bring a change of clothes and a waterproof bag for your phone and valuables.

Guests visiting Green Acres on the Hummingbird Highway in Cayo, Belize should bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and closed-toe shoes or boots. For the Jungle Ride & Swim or Ride, Swim & Picnic experiences, bring a change of clothes and a dry bag for your phone. For the Actun Balam Cave Expedition, wear clothes you don’t mind getting muddy and bring a headlamp if you have one.

Belize is a tropical country and a light shower is a normal part of the jungle experience at Green Acres. Most trail rides continue in light rain — riding through the Belizean jungle in the rain is an experience in itself. In the case of severe weather or unsafe trail conditions, we will contact you directly to reschedule at no penalty.

Food and refreshments vary by ride at Green Acres Jungle Horseback in Belize. The Jungle Ride & Swim includes snacks and refreshments — chips, salsa, and local Belizean sodas and juices. The Jungle Ride, Swim & Picnic includes a full sit-down lunch served at a riverside picnic table. The Actun Balam Cave Expedition includes a canopy-style picnic. The Ranch Loop and Jungle Discovery and Explorer rides do not include food, but guests are welcome to bring their own snacks.
